The only international language in the world is a child's cry
These words were spoken by Save the Children's founder, Eglantyne Jebb
After World War I
Eglantyne chose the unpopular position
of speaking out against her own country's response to the losing side
a blockade that mostly hurt children
Eglantyne was arrested and fined for her work to help the children
But this didn't stop her
She continued fighting for all children regardless of who they are or where they were born
saving hundreds of thousands of lives
Eglantyne Jebb and her friends published the Declaration of the Rights of the Child
which was adopted by the United Nations in 1959
Today, her spirit lives on through the work Save the Children does, in 120 countries around the world
